Faux painting or Faux finishing are terms used to describe a wide range of decorative painting techniques. The name comes from the French word faux, meaning false, as these techniques started as a form of replicating materials such as marble and wood with paint, but has subsequently come to encompass many other decorative finishes for walls and furniture. Walls made to look like wood, marble, or leather, are just a few examples of faux finishes. Faux finishes (decorative finishes) have been seen through out history, all the way back to early cave paintings and Egyptian hieroglyphics.
Decorative finishes or Faux finishes for the walls range from simple glazing to plaster finishes. Smooth finishes or textures, Old World or contemporary, the possibilities are endless. As a trained professional faux finisher/ decorative artist, I will develop a custom decorative finish that pulls from the other aspects of the room , giving your room life.
Below is a sampling of some wall finishes that we have completed.
A picture doesn't offer the full effect of these finishes but please enjoy your visual journey through our gallery to get ideas and see examples of traditional faux finishes, such as glazing, parchment, marbling, and wood graining, as well as metallic finishes and Venetian plaster.
